The 2025 Kohnke's Own Young Event Horse Championship

Showcasing the horses of the future

For 2025, we are again integrating the YEH classes into the existing eventing classes, the EvA 95cm, 1*,2* and 3* classes.  The young horses would complete all three phases of the event as per normal competition. The YEH classes are open to horses aged 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 years old.

The aim of the YEH classes is to showcase potential star quality of upcoming horses and promote breeders of performance horses.  Additionally giving reward and accolades to riders and owners producing young horses.

STRUCTURE

The model is based on the British and European young horse classes/championships

at Osberton and Le Lion d’Angers.

We have enabled the 5, 6, and 7yo horses to choose to compete in one of two levels given that in  Australia the change of horse age is mid calendar year.

Age for horses born in the Southern Hemisphere is determined as of 1st August i.e. a horse born on 1st September 1st December 2020 or 1st January 2021 etc would be a 5-year-old as of 1st August 2025.  Note: For horses born in the Northern Hemisphere EA National Eventing Rule 503.4.1 allows the age of the horse to be calculated from the 1st January.

Example – Sydney 3DE November 2025 (Southern Hemisphere horses)

95 cm – 4/5yo class for horses born in calendar year from 1st August 2021/20

1* – 5/6yo class for horses born in calendar year from 1st August 2020/19

2* Long- 6/7yo class for horses born in calendar year from 1st August 2019/18

3* Long- 7 /8yo class for horses born in calendar year from 1st August 2018/17

RULES and ORGANISATION

There will be four Young Event Horse classes EVA95cm, 1*, 2* and 3*.

The highest placed young horse in each class will win that age class.  The horse may also place in the class

There will be no additional entry cost for the young horse competitors. Entries will be

through Nominate and require a tick like the OTT classes.

Young horse entries will be put in the same section (where possible) so that if the class is divided it ensures a level playing field in terms of dressage scoring.

The classes will be open to any horse i.e. not restricted to horses from NSW.

Young event horses will compete under National/FEI eventing competition rules
