Since 1957, Sydney Horse Trials (now known as Sydney Three-Day Event)  has been considered one of the premier features of the Australian eventing calendar. 

Sydney Three-Day Event established itself as an Olympic qualifying event in 1959 and our honour roll includes some of Australia’s most accomplished riders, with no less than 17 Australian Olympians taking out our highest honours.

The event has been held at four different venues throughout its history

THE PADDINGTON ERA – (1957-1986)

Sydney Three-Day Event was held in conjunction with the Sydney Royal Easter Show. Back then, the dressage and cross-country phases were held in Centennial Park, while the speed and endurance phase was held at Randwick Racecourse, with the show jumping final held at the Sydney Showground.

THE WORRIGEE ERA – (1987-1988)

In 1987 and 1988 the event was held on Olympian, Merv Bennet’s farm in Worrigee – on the site of the original Worrigee Racecourse.

THE LOCHINVAR ERA – (1989-1998)

In 1989 the event was moved to Lochinvar in the Hunter Valley, where it was held annually until 1998.

THE SIEC ERA – (1999-present day)

The 2000 Olympics in Sydney began an exciting new phase for the Sydney International Horse Trials.

The event is now held at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre (SIEC) at Horsley Park, home of the Olympic Equestrian events in 2000 and Australia’s most prestigious Equestrian Centre.

To this day the Sydney 3DE remains a major fixture on the Australian eventing calendar.
